I have been working for a Learndirect centre for a while now and am now able to support my students that are undertaking PC technical courses! We have never been able to do them before but once I told my employer they started advertising them and I am now the "professional" in that area! I started working on the A+ 2003 Objectives. I then heard that these Objectives were going to be extended till end of June. So it was in May when I rang the administration to explain to me about this because I thought it was too late for me to take the exam before the deadline. So one office lady went at length to explain and encourage me to study really hard so that I can take my exam in June. I was left with about six Tutor Marked Assignments (TMAs) to finish this course and I thought to myself if I could manage it. It was unimaginable since I wanted to leave some other time to revise all my work before I attempt to sit any exams. I tried to budget my time for the one month which was left and some other course I was doing. It was a really really a huge task. But I thank that office lady from SkillsTrain who gave me hope. Wow! just completed TMA 11 on Installing and uninstalling hardware etc and it has been helpful to me and to a lady I helped over the internet with her Ipod. She was having trouble, the computer was not recognising Ipod so I went through the steps with her that I've learnt in unit 11 and presto, Ipod installed + working very happy lady. I was a soldier, but was shot. I had to leave the army and life took a downward turn. I went to prison for 2 years. I brought up my son on my own from 2, he's now 11. I suffered a back injury 4 years ago had to stop work, but now I have decided to better my self by doing this course to provide for my son. It is amazing what the course with Skills Train can do! I have searched for computer based job since I set foot in the UK. First of all I would like to thank the Tutor team and skills train for helping me with my studies. As maybe you can see/notice that for the past months my entrance to the student world and assignment completion have been rare because of the circumstances beyond my control. My grandad passed away in January after being sick for some time. I was very low at the time as I couldn't go home and at the same time my mother was diagnosed with heart problems. This really put pressure on me financially and hard to make ends meet. During this time I couldn't focus on my studies always on the phone to my relatives making sure my mum was doing well in hospital(Zimbabwe) doctors were on strike. It was very hard to keep calm and put my mind to anything I tried to read from course material. Again, with the help of tutors after having problems with Live Lab I managed to start with loggin in to live lab and practice trying to keep myself strong and to try and forget about the problems. It was a big mountain to climb on my own and took a lot from me. My mum is still in hospital but doing a bit better. I have just started my course with skillstrain purely because I was with another provider doing the exact course having being told I had tutors etc, the day came when I needed a little help so I picked the phone and gave the company a call........ To find out that I don't have a tutor and the only way I can get help is through fellow students, the course was quiet a lot of money, due to the fact of having a family! all what I had learnt was on a self learn basis with no help what so ever. Dear Team, I have found the course to be of the most valuable and exciting course I'v been on! and I have been on a few. It has helped me to know more about computers and there technologies than I thought I could grasp, but the way the course matirial is set out, it's very easy to understand. Its been a real challenge making out enough time to give to my studies, but the interesting part of it is that all my nights of staying up late to study and do my TMA's are very fruitful. My score in the N+ part A course has been outstanding as far as I am concerned, out of the 10, I have scored 100% in 5, 90% in 2 , 80% in 2 and 76% in 1 (which is my last score), like I said, I think that is really excellent, particularly when my circumstances are put into consideration, and to think that I submitted 2 TMA's a week on the average (I think that is a feat!). Additionally, based on the knowledge I have gained so far, my approach to work has remarkably improved. the lesson on troubleshooting become a handy tool for me, and as a result, I got a promotion at work. I really think every part of this course has been worth it. Before starting my course with Skillstrain I had always dreamed to become an IT Engineer in the future, so when I start MCSE course with skillstrain at the beginning I found it a bit far to reach my goal, but after completing my A+, N+ I thought I had found the goal I was looking for. I was working in Coopervision as a Production Operator, very recently they had a vacancy for general admin assistant, I thought let's try my luck here. I have started my course with Skills Train just over a year now and although I have had previous computer knowledge from completing the CIW qualification, I must admit through studying the N+ and the MCSA Windows Server 2002/2003, has given me exceptional knowledge about computer hardware/software and computer network which is what I enjoy doing, hence why I decided to embark on this course. Not only that, finding a college to fit my working and private life around wasn't easy until when I discovered Skills Train, and holding down a full time job within a busy environment such as the police my current employer and supporting a family whilst giving 100% to a very intense course with a lot to take in isn't very easy. But nonetheless, through hard work and dedication I can safely say that I am almost finish and with a lot of confidence to pass my exams. I am also proud to say as a result of studying the N + and MCSA Windows Server 2002/2003 I have recently had an interview internally as a Communication Officer, awaiting result, and I am also having another interview next week also internal as a Computer Forensic Investigator. I thought progression such as this worth sharing as I haven't had an interview in a long time let alone two in two weeks. Many thanks to Skills Train and its Tutors. Having been 25yrs since I last study, I found it difficult at the start to take in information and remember it for any length of time.I have now began to understand and remember more of what I am learning (hopefully enough) and have not been temped (yet anyway)to look back on my notes when completing assignments I have personally been surprised at my progress and hope to continue to surpass my expectations. I am still battling with M.E and had a very patchy May/June. I didn't stop studying I just couldn't stay awake long enough to get the assignment re-submitted. I kept studying as it helped take my mind off feeling ill, as you know I got 97% after resubmitting the TMA. I was really proud of myself for persevering and getting the grade I wanted!
